At a unique location in the middle of the dunes of the Dutch North Sea coast, Circuit Zandvoort was the venue for major Formula 1 races until 1985. The first race took place in 1948, then still known as the Grand Prix of Zandvoort. From 1952, the Dutch GP was held every year as part of the Formula 1 World Championship. The last Grand Prix on the Zandvoort circuit was won by Niki Lauda. The racetrack is known for its fast, sharp bends and challenging elevation changes of up to 15 meters.
